Eoin, a 32-year-old software engineer in Cork, presented with intrusive thoughts, contamination fears and time-consuming compulsive checking rituals that impacted his work and home routines. Symptoms had gradually intensified over 3–4 years.

Initial Assessment . A consultation with an experienced psychologist preceded a focused OCD assessment, which concluded moderate-to-severe OCD requiring specialist CBT with ERP and a tailored treatment plan developed in collaboration with healthcare professionals

Progress and outcome

Eoin reported a 40–60% reduction in symptoms by 6 months with regular ERP and behavioural experiments.

He regained control of daily routines and returned to full-time work with fewer productivity losses.

When combined with low-dose SSRI (optional and individualised), positive therapeutic affect was maintained.
