Niamh, a 9-year-old primary-school pupil in Meath, was falling behind in reading and spelling despite normal classroom effort. Parents requested a targeted psycho-educational assessment to assess specific learning difficulties (SLD) and to support school-based interventions.

Initial Assessment A full psychoeducational assessment was conducted: cognitive testing (age-appropriate measures), standardised reading and spelling tests, processing measures, and observational/school-report data.

Therapeutic approach

Diagnostic Report

Detailing strengths and weaknesses, with clear recommendations for the school (IEP-style adjustments), literacy interventions, and assistive technology suggestions.

Parental Feedback

Feedback session with parents to help implement strategies, educational plan, interventions and recommendations.

Progress and outcome

Diagnosis of moderate specific learning difficulty (dyslexia) with an evidence-based plan for 12–16 weeks of targeted literacy support.

After 3–4 months of tailored tuition and classroom adjustments, measurable gains in decoding and reading fluency were observed

“The report was very thorough and gave the school something concrete to work with. Niamh started to enjoy reading again after the one-to-one support.”
